System I is the Industrial revolution where the main strategic focus was on manufacturing. This system took from the agri-cultural life many had and created a lot of innovations still used today. System II focused on knowledge building and globalisation. It created enormous wealth around the world and took many people out of poverty but it also made the rich richer and the gap between rich and poor increased. When system was changed we called this a paradigm shift and there is always a loss in performance when transforming from one level to the other. In the graph above that is represented by area A.
System II was the era of knowledge and globalisation. This system connected people around the globe and also created industries purely driven by knowledge and knowledge sharing. System II made the richer richer and the poorer poorer. It put a huge pressure on nature and we started to experience climate change.
This new paradigm in System III will focus on convergence of technology, business and Human-Centric Future. A Human-Centric Future demands that we create new mental models that starts with a clean sheet. A Human-Centric is not a design it is a unique way to crate value in balance with Technology, Humans and Nature. I think that Humans, Machines (AI, ML, Automation etc) and Nature will work side-by-side and create new solutions that was not possible before. Technology without Humans is dead. We need to ask ourselves what can I do better with Technology and not the other way around. A Human-Centric Future is in balance with Nature because without a functional Nature we Humans have no future.
When we now transform from System II to System III it will be like "crossing river Rubicon”.
Rightly understood it will mean huge opportunities.
We know one thing for sure and whatever strategy you had before the Pandemic it is no more valid. PERIOD.
What ever took you here will not get you there. You must step-up to a higher standard.
